Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan
Sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder
Cream together (Beat) butter and white sugar until fluffy and light in color
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Stir in vanilla
Add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture
Add the milk to the ingredients
Stir until just blended
Pour batter into prepared pan
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes (until cake springs back when lightly touched)
Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before removing from pan and placing on a wire rack to cool completely
